Day 2
Teaching and Learning
through
Mathematical Concepts
Books and articles authored by
Dr Jennier Chang Wathall

Move beyond rote procedures and mechanical computation to develop deep, enduring mathematical understanding. This day will explore how concept-based approaches can help learners become confident mathematical thinkers who are able to reason, make connections, solve problems and persevere.
Through an interactive workshop, Jennifer will demonstrate how conceptual lenses can transform mathematical unit design and deepen understanding of key mathematical ideas. Participants will explore how to balance essential content knowledge with conceptual understanding, creating units of inquiry that promote reasoning, critical thinking and meaningful learning.
Discover how conceptual lenses can help learners connect ideas across mathematical topics, other subject areas and authentic real-world contexts. You will leave with a clear framework, practical strategies and renewed inspiration for developing genuine mathematical thinkers equipped to navigate an increasingly complex and quantitative world.
